Case study 05 · Digital process & quality

From paper logs to digital quality insight

Root cause analysis and a structured digital reporting system that moved a production process from 80% to 99% efficiency.

Organisation
Volkswagen India
My role
Quality Analyst (GAT)
Period
Oct 2017 – Oct 2018

Outcome

  • from 80% to 99%process efficiency after targeted redesign
  • 17.5 thousand US dollarsannual cost savings

Related work on the line: reduced vehicle pulling cases from 45 to 3 per month through cross-functional parameter analysis.

01Context

A recurring manufacturing quality issue persisted on the assembly line. Issue tracking was paper-based, which left management with little visibility and made patterns hard to act on.

02My contribution

  • Diagnosed the issue through data-driven root cause analysis.
  • Designed the structured digital reporting solution and its standardised data taxonomy.
  • Turned the resulting quality insights into targeted process-redesign recommendations.

03Approach

  • Root cause analysis using production quality data.
  • Replaced paper-based issue tracking with a structured digital reporting solution.
  • Standardised the data taxonomy and data-collection procedure so insights were consistent and comparable.

Capabilities demonstrated

  • Root cause analysis
  • Digital reporting
  • Process standardisation
  • Data taxonomy design
